I’ve known Nikki since university where we met through mutual friends. Then when Tom and I got married in 2015 we chose Nikki as our photographer – be sure to check out her amazing work, I couldn’t recommend her enough! www.nicolakirkphotography.com

As a wedding photographer, Nikki sees a lot of wedding rings, so I was honoured to be asked to create Nikki’s ring after she’d seen a design of mine on our Instagram feed.

The design that had caught Nikki’s eye was a half diamond eternity ring, with a vintage styled millgrain edge, which would sit perfectly with her classic diamond and platinum engagement ring.

As Nikki had chosen a design from my portfolio there wasn’t a need for a design sketch stage – it was just a case of some small tweaks to the design, giving the ring a rounder, softer look to work with her engagement ring.

After we’d confirmed the tweaks to the profile, worked out how many diamonds we would need to create the half set shank, and that we should make the design in platinum to match and work with her engagement ring I was able to give Nikki a quote for the overall project. As with all bespoke orders after the customer confirms the design and quote, a 50% deposit is paid to get the project started, with the balance due on completion.

With this design I went straight into platinum, making the shank to size which was then posted to Nikki to try on as she’s not local to the studio. The fitting was just right enabling us to progress with the ring. The next stage was to send the ring for hallmarking in London – if possible we always send hallmarking prior to stones being set, lowering the risk of damage or loss. It was then time for a high polish before the diamonds were set, and the ring was then finished with the vintage millgrain edge.

One of the most rewarding parts of being a jeweller is making special pieces of jewellery like wedding rings, even more so when the design is for someone I know.

I’m really pleased with how the design came together with the small tweaks, and love the design with its vintage feel. And I’m pleased to say Nikki was thrilled with the results too!

“I knew I wanted Louise to make and design my wedding ring for a long time. While following her updates on Instagram, a new one popped up with a vintage style diamond band, it was perfect!
Louise got the size spot on, it never needed re-sizing or anything. It still remains very shiny still and it gets lots of comments too.
I would fully recommend for her excellent service, and beautiful designs.”
